"I was born in NYC as a 1st generation American. My father becoming a missionary pastor is the only reason I saw outside of NYC and why I got a taste of quality public school education. I wonder everyday where I’d be had I finished school in that small town in Texas where my classmates owned horses or where I’d be had I finished school in P.S. 131 in Brooklyn as opposed to a magnet school in Newark, NJ.
Would I be smarter? Dumber? Would I have more or less career opportunity or success? I was blessed with perspective and experience, and now it's my duty to make sure no other kid from NYC (or anywhere) has to ask these questions about themselves."
