"Equity in Education matters. It has many forms. One of them is saying we all have stories and when they come together, they tell the whole story of us. My people’s stories and your people’s stories collide. They all matter. When my people, people of color are allowed to be core in curriculum and not just an elective we get a truthful story. One respectfully told. Our children should see themselves in history, the present, and future. They should be able to look back and say “Wow, look what your people contributed! Look what we all contributed.” Then know they can all make their own contributions. "
"Sometimes homeschooling feels like my family lives on a lonely island. Add in the fact that I’m African American and raising biracial children and that island can feel even smaller. One day I realized I wasn’t going to find a place for us, one where people were telling our stories. We were going to have to create that space. We did and then we “sent our message out in a bottle” and found there were many people of color homeschoolers on their own little islands in that ocean of the homeschool community. We’ve come together, we see and hear each other, and our children. We invite others to stop looking past us. To see and hear us too. "
