Betsy Morgan
Middlesex Coalition for Children
Middletown, CT

Betsy Morgan, retired Director of the Middlesex Coalition for Children, which she led for over two decades, and current ally with the Middletown Racial Justice Coalition speaks on the long history and evolution of their work with the Graustein Memorial Fund and in the community. She talks about various initiatives such as Children First and Discovery, what worked, what didn't work, bottom up and top down work, and rejecting corporate models of community building. She reflects on being a group of well intentioned white people, and her evolution in understanding how to stop using poverty as a proxy for race, and working to support people of color in defining and leading the work for transformational change in communities and education.
